UGA's strategic plan for 2000 - 2010

The University of Georgia is an excellent public university, and it can be, and aspires to be and to be recognized as, one of the truly great public universities in the United States. This vision can be achieved through the increasing excellence of its students and its faculty, and its research and service to the public, all supported by greater public and private funding, and by improved stewardship of its resources.

To realize this vision, the principal academic and administrative units of the University of Georgia have been employed throughout 1999 and the first half of 2000 in a strategic planning exercise to identify the ways in which the University can most effectively serve the citizens of the Georgia in the first decade of the 21st century. The University sought to identify the changes in the external environment that are likely to impact the programs and services provided by the university and the expectations and needs of its manifold constituencies. The University also attempted to take an unvarnished look at its strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities to provide new levels of service to Georgia and to attract additional resources to support current and proposed programs.

The strategic planning process was established by President Michael F. Adams and carried out by the University Strategic Planning Advisory Group appointed by the President.
